In February 2021, PreachOut International launched Reach Out 004, focusing on Katula in Turkana County. This mission’s goal was to plant a church and establish a strong foundation for spiritual growth in the community. Following the success of Reach Out 003, which recorded 2,500 decisions for Christ, this mission aimed to nurture the seeds of faith planted in the region.
Challenges Faced
The mission faced significant challenges, including harsh weather conditions, which made mobility and outreach difficult in this arid region. Language barriers also posed a hurdle, as many locals spoke native Turkana dialects unfamiliar to the team. Additionally, resistance from a few traditionalists wary of change added to the complexity of the mission.
How the Team Overcame the Challenges
The team’s resilience and adaptability were key. By partnering with local translators and community leaders, they bridged the language gap and built trust within the community. To address resistance, the team focused on personal relationships, sharing the gospel through acts of service like water distribution and community prayers, which softened hearts and opened doors for dialogue.
Impact
Despite the obstacles, the mission was a success, resulting in the planting of a vibrant church in Katula. This church has become a beacon of hope, bringing together new believers for worship, discipleship, and fellowship.
