Reach Out 006 marked a significant urban outreach for PreachOut International, targeting the Karamajong community residing in Eastleigh, Nairobi. Known for its bustling trade and diverse population, Eastleigh presents a unique mission field where culture and commerce converge. The Karamajong, a nomadic group originally from Uganda and northern Kenya, have found themselves in Eastleigh seeking economic opportunities but often live in marginalized conditions.
Challenges Faced
The mission faced urban-specific challenges, including high mobility among the Karamajong, making consistent engagement difficult. The team also encountered skepticism from community members wary of religious efforts amidst Eastleigh’s predominantly Islamic influence. Additionally, economic hardships in the community required balancing spiritual outreach with meeting physical needs.
How the Team Overcame the Challenges
The team worked closely with local pastors and community leaders to identify key areas where the Karamajong gathered, such as markets and informal settlements. They initiated dialogue through cultural events and communal meals, creating a welcoming environment for sharing the gospel. To address physical needs, the team organized small-scale feeding programs and provided basic necessities, which helped foster trust and openness.
Impact
Over the four months, the mission successfully built connections with the Karamajong community, opening doors for deeper discipleship. While no immediate church plant was established, follow-up efforts have continued, with a growing number of individuals attending nearby fellowships and showing interest in learning more about Christ.

Reach Out 006 was a testament to PreachOut International’s adaptability in urban missions, demonstrating the power of relational evangelism in transforming lives, even in dynamic and diverse settings like Eastleigh.
