Transformative Mission Among the Rendile Nation: A Journey of Faith and Community
An Overview of the Kurkum Mission
Between February 15th and June 8th, 2020, Preach Out International embarked on a transformative mission to the Rendile Nation, a community located in Kurkum. Hosted by Deliverance Church in Kurkum and under the leadership of Pastor Stephen Maina, this mission aimed to spread the Gospel, provide mentorship, and engage in community development. The mission followed an initial reconnaissance by Milton Kikului Mulwa and Inaya Purity Achieng, which helped lay the groundwork for this impactful journey.
Challenges and Recommendations
The mission faced several hurdles, including high illiteracy rates, cultural barriers like early marriages and polygamy, and challenging environmental conditions. The report highlights recommendations such as establishing adult literacy classes, improving healthcare facilities, and enhancing community engagement strategies. Suggestions also include providing solar-powered audio Bibles and developing better infrastructure for water collection and well maintenance to support ongoing mission efforts.
Key Activities and Achievements
The mission team, including Caleb Ranyisi, Gasper Karanja, Timothy Wahinya, Esther Mwangi, and Jane Wanjiku Foroh, engaged in a wide range of activities throughout their stay. They began with orientation and language learning, followed by intense prayer and fasting, mentorship programs, and extensive door-to-door evangelism.
Their efforts led to 132 individuals and 80 pupils in Kurkum Primary School making decisions for Christ. Despite facing significant challenges such as illiteracy, extreme weather, and cultural practices, the team’s persistent efforts resulted in meaningful engagement and spiritual growth within the Rendile community.

Overall, the mission was marked by significant achievements and a positive reception from the Rendile people. The host missionary’s hospitality and the community’s openness facilitated a successful outreach despite the difficulties. Moving forward, Preach Out International plans to build on this foundation by addressing the highlighted challenges, furthering community development, and continuing their commitment to spreading the Gospel in unreached regions.
